Setting up the backend

The basic settings for running Eplan Smart Production are defined in the backend. These include the hostname, the port used and the configuration of the Windows service.

Check the basic settings

1. Open Eplan Smart Production. The configuration dialogue box will open.
2. Check the ‘Hostname / IP address’ entry. By default, the current computer name is used. Only change this value if necessary.
3. Check the port being used. The port must be accessible on the network and must not be in use by other applications.

Select HTTPS certificate

1. Select the button next to the ‘HTTPS’ field.
2. Confirm the information dialogue.
3. Tick the ‘HTTPS SSL-encrypted connection’ checkbox
4. Select the certificate file created by your organisation and the corresponding certificate key file.

Configure Windows service

For production use, Eplan Smart Production should be run as a Windows service.

Prerequisites

• A service account for running the Windows service is available or can be created.
• The service account requires local administrator rights on the server. Additionally, the ‘Log on as a service’ permission must be granted.

Configure access details for the service

1. Select the button next to the ‘Service account’ field.
2. Enter the username of the service account.
3. Enter the password of the service account.
4. Click Save. The login details will be applied to the Windows service.

Setting up the Microsoft SQL Server database

Microsoft SQL Server is recommended for the production operation of Eplan Smart Production. Have a database administrator provide the connection details and permissions.

Prerequisite

• Communication via TCP/IP is enabled on the database server.
• If you are using SQL authentication, this must be enabled on the database server.
• The connection between the database server and the Smart Production Server must be permitted through the firewall.

Database

1. Select the button next to the ‘Database’ field.
2. Enter the database user’s login details or, alternatively, use Windows authentication.
3. Enter the server name, database name and any other necessary details to authenticate with your SQL Server.
4. Save the settings.
5. If a database exists, the connection is checked. If no database exists and the database user has ‘dbcreator’ permissions, a new database is created. If a connection cannot be established, a message is displayed.

Connect to the Licence Manager

1. Select the button next to the ‘ELM’ field
2. Under ‘Configure’, connect to your existing Eplan Licence Manager (ELM).
3. Once the connection has been successfully established, the server will be displayed in the ‘Current ELM Server’ field.
4. Exit the dialogue box by clicking ‘Back’

Start server

Start the Smart Production Server by clicking the ‘Start’ button. The current status is displayed.

If Eplan Smart Production is not running as a Windows service, the application is only available whilst the configuration dialogue box remains open. For production use, running it as a Windows service is recommended.
