Eplan Smart Production is an assistance system for employees in control cabinet manufacturing. Using checklists, employees are led through individual component installation and control cabinet wiring processes. The system provides the information needed for each work step. A 3D model of the control cabinet provides an even better understanding of which action is currently required.

The employee assistance system increases efficiencies in production and significantly reduces the complexity of all tasks. The consolidated display of relevant information, supplemented by additional information that can be called up as needed, saves on time wasted searching through project documentation. This greatly reduces manufacturing times. At the same time, new technicians can be trained much faster thanks to the installation and wiring instructions automatically generated from the digital twin of the machine.

The checklist is further used to document each step of the process directly at the workstation in workshops and production facilities. As a result, the monitoring dashboard provides full transparency about the progress of production for all orders.

Helpful information for the entire process

Smart Production leads assembly technicians on a step-by-step basis through the installation of DIN rails, cable ducts and electrotechnical components on through to the actual wiring of devices. The software presents a visualisation of where and how each component must be installed.

Beyond this, precise measurements and drilling patters can also be shown on the 3D model. For wiring, the exact routing of each individual wire is also displayed so that EMC specifications can be precisely realised.

Status for visualising project progress

Eplan Smart Production tracks the current status of individual components and wires according to a traffic-light system: everything that still must be completed is marked in red, while green means it has been fully installed. Technicians can use the comments function to note any queries about certain components or wire routing and forward them to the design department either via e-mail or in a status report so that engineering and manufacturing are working hand in hand.

Centralised creation and output of production orders

Using Eplan Smart Production, production management creates, manages and updates production orders from a central server and assigns them to the individual workstations. This means that assembly technicians have access to current data using a browser. The centralised overview further gives management a continuous overview and control of work progress.

Monitoring for production managers

Production managers get a comprehensive overview of production orders and key performance indicators. The monitoring dashboard offers detailed analyses with which you can follow the progress of your orders, identify bottlenecks and choke points, and make data-driven decisions to optimise processes. The central overview summarises important information about orders. In addition, a detailed view provides you with data on processing times and material consumption (as two examples).

Comprehensive support – even for changes

If requirements change or components or wires are missing, this can often lead to adjustments being made during the assembly of a control cabinet. Smart Production helps ensure that all employees have access to updated documentation.

Beyond this, the software also supports the changes being implemented by displaying the differences between the versions and updates the checklist of the detailed work instructions accordingly.
